W.A. Heritage Trails Network facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

The W.A. Heritage Trails Network is a special group of trails and places in Western Australia. These trails help people learn about the history and heritage of the area. The network started with money from a big program in 1988 called the Australian Bicentennial Commemorative Program. This program celebrated 200 years since European settlement in Australia.

Many local communities and councils worked together with the National Trust of Australia (WA) to find and create these trails. They put up signs and made maps and books for the 1988 celebrations. This helped set high standards for finding and showing heritage sites across Western Australia.

The W.A. Heritage Committee looked after the network at first. This committee later became known as the Heritage Council of Western Australia.

What Are Heritage Trails?

These heritage trails are not all the same. Some are walking trails, perfect for exploring on foot. Others cover longer distances, so you might need a car to travel along them.

Where Can You Find the Trails?

The trails are organized into different areas or regions across Western Australia. These include:

  • The South Metropolitan and North Metropolitan areas in Perth.
  • The Midlands region, which includes parts of the Wheatbelt.
  • The South West region.
  • Other regions throughout Western Australia.
