Wescosville is a small community in Lehigh County, Pennsylvania. It is known as a census-designated place, which means it's a special area defined by the U.S. Census Bureau for collecting population data. Wescosville is located between the cities of Allentown and Trexlertown. It is part of Lower Macungie Township.

Wescosville is also part of a larger area called the Lehigh Valley. In 2020, the Lehigh Valley had a population of about 861,899 people. History of Wescosville

Wescosville got its name from a man named Philip Wesco. He ran a local inn in the area during the 1820s. People started calling the settlement after him.

Geography and Nature

Wescosville is located in the southern part of Lehigh County. It sits in the northern corner of Lower Macungie Township. The community covers about 7.1 square kilometers (2.7 square miles) of land. Only a tiny part, about 0.01 square kilometers (0.004 square miles), is water.

The water in Wescosville drains into two creeks. To the south, water flows into Little Lehigh Creek. To the north, it goes into Cedar Creek. Cedar Creek then flows into the Little Lehigh. Both of these creeks are part of the larger Lehigh River watershed. A watershed is an area of land where all the water drains into a common river or lake.

Getting Around Wescosville

The main business area of Wescosville is along Hamilton Boulevard. This road is crossed by the Pennsylvania Turnpike Northeast Extension (I-476). This turnpike is also known as the Northeast Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike.

Another major highway, Interstate 78, runs along the northeastern edge of Wescosville. Here, it connects with U.S. 222.

  • If you take I-78 East, you can travel about 92 miles (148 km) to the Holland Tunnel in Lower Manhattan, New York City.
  • If you take I-78 West, you can connect to Interstate 81. This route leads about 78 miles (126 km) to Harrisburg, the state capital.
  • U.S. 222 goes southeast from Wescosville for about 34 miles (55 km) to Reading.
  • Hamilton Boulevard continues northeast for about 5 miles (8 km) to Allentown.

Wescosville also has a park and ride lot on Hamilton Boulevard. This is where people can park their cars and then take buses. Buses from Trans-Bridge Lines and Klein Transportation pick up passengers here. They offer rides to Midtown Manhattan in New York City.
