Weston's History
Weston officially became a city on October 19, 1878. This happened when the Oregon Legislative Assembly (the state's law-making group) approved it.
The Story of Nard Jones
Weston is well-known because of a writer named Nard Jones (1904–1972). He lived in Weston with his parents from 1919 to 1927. His first novel, Oregon Detour, was set in a small Oregon town of 600 people called "Creston."
When his book came out in 1930, many people in Weston thought the characters were based on real town residents. They felt the book was unfair to their town. While it's not true that Jones was sued or forced to leave, some town members tried to stop people from reading the book. Copies of the novel were even stolen from the local library. After a high school student wrote a book report on it, the English teacher removed the book from the reading list and the school library. Even decades later, people in Weston still tried to guess which characters were based on real people.
