Westphalia is a small city in Osage County, Missouri, United States. In 2020, about 378 people lived there. It is part of the larger Jefferson City area.
Westphalia has a strong connection to its German roots. Many of the first people who settled here came from the Westphalia region in Germany. This is why the city has its name. You can see German influences in the old buildings and even on street signs, which are often in both English and German. Westphalia is also special because it's where the exact middle point of Missouri's population is located.

History of Westphalia
Westphalia was first planned out in 1835. It was named after the Westphalia region in Germany. Many of the first settlers came from that part of Germany. A post office opened in Westphalia in 1848, helping the community grow.
A very important building in the city is St. Joseph Church. This church was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1972. This means it is a special place recognized for its history and importance.
Geography of Westphalia
Westphalia is located about 12 miles southeast of Jefferson City. It sits near US Route 63, a major road. The Maries River flows along the south and east sides of the city. The Osage River is also nearby, about two miles to the northwest.
The city covers a total area of about 0.37 square miles (0.97 square kilometers). All of this area is land, with no large bodies of water inside the city limits.
