Wiggins is a small town in Morgan County, Colorado, United States. It is known as a "statutory town," which means it follows specific rules set by the state of Colorado.
In 2020, about 1,401 people lived in Wiggins. This was a big jump from 2010, when the population was 893.
The town started in 1882 as a railroad stop called "Corona." Around 1900, its name changed to Wiggins. This was to honor Oliver P. Wiggins. He was a guide and scout who helped Captain John C. Frémont explore northern Colorado in the 1840s. Oliver P. Wiggins also traveled with Kit Carson for 12 years on his adventures.
Geography of Wiggins
Wiggins is located in the western part of Morgan County. It sits just south of Interstate 76. This highway goes east about 15 miles to Fort Morgan, which is the main town of the county. If you go southwest on I-76 for about 64 miles, you will reach Denver.
U.S. Route 34 also starts near Wiggins, just north of I-76. This route heads northwest about 38 miles to Greeley.
The town of Wiggins covers about 1.3 square miles of land. Only a tiny part, about 0.30%, is water.
