History of Williamstown
When Grant County was created in 1820, a man named William Arnold offered his land for the county's main town. Arnold had fought in the American Revolutionary War and moved to the area in 1795. The town built on his land was named after him when it officially became a city in 1825.
The town grew slowly at first. By 1870, only 281 people lived there. Things started to change when the Cincinnati Southern Railway was built through the county in 1877. Later, in 1957, Williamstown Lake was created, which is a big reservoir. In the 1960s, Interstate 75, a major highway, was built, making it easier to travel to and from Williamstown.
A big change happened in 2016 when the Ark Encounter theme park opened in Williamstown. This park features a huge, life-sized replica of Noah's Ark.
