Windward Islands facts for kids
The Windward Islands are a group of islands in the Caribbean Sea. They are the southern islands of the Lesser Antilles, which is a chain of islands in the West Indies. These islands are located south of another group called the Leeward Islands.
The name "Windward" comes from how they are positioned against the trade winds. These winds blow from the east, and the Windward Islands are generally the first major islands the winds hit. This means they get more rain and have lush, green landscapes.
