Exploring Wonderland's Geography
Wonderland is a secret world found underground. The main character, Alice, gets there by falling down a long rabbit hole. The story doesn't say exactly how deep it is. Alice even wonders if it's near the center of the Earth or on the other side of the world!
This land is mostly covered in thick forests. You can also find giant mushrooms growing there. Wonderland has beautiful, well-kept gardens and large, fancy houses. Some of these belong to characters like the Duchess and the White Rabbit. There's even a seacoast where the Mock Turtle lives.
Who Rules Wonderland?
Wonderland is officially ruled by the Queen of Hearts. She is known for making many silly rules and often ordering people to be punished. However, her husband, the King of Hearts, usually cancels her harsh decisions. There is also at least one Duchess who lives in Wonderland.
Meeting Wonderland's Inhabitants
The main people living in Wonderland are animated playing cards. These include the royal family (hearts), their helpers (diamonds), soldiers (clubs), and servants (spades). Besides the cards, there are many talking animals who live there too.
Here are some of the unique characters Alice meets on her adventure:

- Gryphon

Wonderland in Other Stories and Movies
Wonderland has inspired many other stories and films.
Wonderland in Disney Films
- Wonderland appears in Walt Disney's 1951 animated movie, Alice in Wonderland.
- It is also featured in Tim Burton's 2010 live-action film, Alice in Wonderland. In this movie, the land is actually called Underland. Alice thought it was "Wonderland" when she was a child. Alice returns to Underland to help the White Queen challenge her sister, the Red Queen, for control of the kingdom.
Wonderland in TV Shows
Wonderland is also part of the TV series Once Upon a Time and its spin-off Once Upon a Time in Wonderland. In these shows, there are two versions of Wonderland.
The first version of Wonderland is ruled by the Queen of Hearts, the Red King and Queen, the White King and Queen, and the Caterpillar. This version has many interesting places. These include the Black Forest, which is very dark, and the Boiling Sea, which is a sea of hot water. There's also Mallow Marsh, a sticky swamp, and Tulgey Woods, where the Mad Hatter lives.
A second version, called New Wonderland, appears in the series's seventh season. Not much is known about it, but it is home to a creature called the Jabberwocky and has an Infinite Maze.
