Woodacre's Location and Size
Woodacre is found in the eastern part of the San Geronimo Valley in central Marin County. To its west are the communities of San Geronimo and Lagunitas-Forest Knolls.
It is about 8 miles (13 km) south-southwest of Novato. It is also 8 miles (13 km) northwest of San Rafael. The closest official town is Fairfax, which is about 4 miles (6.4 km) to the east-southeast.
Woodacre sits at an elevation of 364 feet (111 meters). This makes it the highest "base elevation" community in Marin County. The entire area of Woodacre is about 1.8 square miles (4.65 square kilometers), and all of it is land.
A Look at Woodacre's History
Woodacre started as a community in 1912. This was when people began dividing the land into smaller pieces to sell for homes.
In 1923, a big wildfire swept through the area. It sadly burned down 35 of the 40 homes in Woodacre. The community's first post office opened a couple of years later, in 1925.
