Where is Woodhill?
The Logan River flows along the western edge of Woodhill. This river forms a natural border for the area.
The Mount Lindesay Highway is a main road that goes through Woodhill. It enters from the north-east and leaves towards the south.
A Look at Woodhill's Past
Woodhill started out as a large farm called Townsvale plantation in 1862. The Ferguson Family owned a property there named Woodhill.
The First Cemetery
David and Jane Ferguson gave some of their land for a cemetery. They did this after their 11-year-old son, George, sadly died in 1873. The Woodhill Cemetery was officially recognized in 1879. At first, it was called the Veresdale Cemetery.
School Days in Woodhill
The first school in the area was Townsvale National School, which opened in 1873. It changed its name to Veresdale State School in 1874. Later, in 1899, it was renamed Woodhill State School, which it is still called today.
The Old Railway Station
There used to be a train station called Woodhill railway station. It was part of the Beaudesert railway line, which opened in 1888. This train line is no longer used today.
Woodhill Becomes Official
Woodhill was officially given its name and borders on April 24, 1997. Before 2008, Woodhill was part of the Shire of Beaudesert. It became part of Logan City when local councils joined together in March 2008.
