Yeoh Tiong Lay (Chinese: 楊忠禮; 18 December 1929 – 18 October 2017) was a famous Malaysian businessman and a kind-hearted person who gave a lot to charity. He started a huge company called YTL Corporation. Today, YTL is one of Malaysia's biggest companies. It works in many different areas like building things, providing electricity and water, running hotels, developing properties, and using new technology.

YTL Corporation is mainly based in Malaysia. However, it also has big operations in other parts of Asia, Australia, and even the United Kingdom. For example, in the UK, it owns a water company called Wessex Water.

In 2013, Yeoh Tiong Lay gave a large gift of US$11 million to King's College, London. This money helped create the Yeoh Tiong Lay Centre for Politics, Philosophy & Law.

Early Life and Business Journey

Yeoh Tiong Lay was born on 18 December 1929. He was a Malaysian Chinese person with family roots from Kinmen and Zhangzhou. He was the third child in his family. He finished his high school education at Hin Hua High School in Klang, Malaysia.

Yeoh Tiong Lay became one of the richest people in Malaysia. By October 2017, his family's wealth was estimated to be around US$3 billion. He built his business empire from the ground up, creating many jobs and helping develop different parts of the economy.

His Family Life

Yeoh Tiong Lay married Tan Kai Yong in 1952. They were married for 65 years until he passed away in 2017.

He had seven children: Francis Yeoh, Yeoh Soo Min, Victor Yeoh Seok Kian, Yeoh Seok Hong, Michael Yeoh, Yeoh Soo Keng, and Mark Yeoh. All of his children are involved in the YTL Group. They lead different parts of the company. He also had 27 grandchildren, including Ruth Yeoh, Michelle Yeoh, Rebekah Yeoh, and Rachel Yeoh, and five great-grandchildren.

Giving Back to the Community

Yeoh Tiong Lay was very involved in helping others in Malaysia. He gave money to many schools and educational places. He was also the chairman of Hin Hua High School, which was the school he attended when he was younger. He believed in the importance of education and supported it throughout his life.

He passed away on 18 October 2017.
