Zachary Orr (born June 9, 1992) is an American football coach. He used to play as a linebacker in the National Football League (NFL). Today, he is the defensive coordinator for the Baltimore Ravens.
Before becoming a coach, Orr played college football at North Texas. He joined the Ravens in 2014 as an undrafted free agent. He played for three seasons in the NFL.

Playing in the NFL
Zach Orr joined the Baltimore Ravens in 2014. He was not chosen in the draft, but he still made it onto the team. In his first year, he was great at special teams, making 7 tackles.
In 2016, Orr became a starting linebacker for the Ravens. He had an amazing season. He made 132 tackles and helped his team win many games. In one game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, he even caught an interception right at the end to secure the victory. He was recognized as a second-team All-Pro player for his excellent performance that year.
Why Zach Orr Retired
On January 20, 2017, Zach Orr announced he was retiring from football. This was because of a serious neck and spine condition he was born with. Doctors told him it was too risky to keep playing.
A few months later, he thought about coming back to football. He visited several teams, but no one would sign him. They were worried about his spinal condition. So, on August 18, 2017, he officially retired for good.

Coaching Career
After retiring as a player, Zach Orr quickly started a new career in coaching.
First Time with the Ravens
Just 12 days after his second retirement, Orr was hired by the Baltimore Ravens on August 30, 2017. He worked as a defensive analyst, helping the team understand how their opponents played defense.
Coaching the Jaguars
On February 11, 2021, Orr moved to the Jacksonville Jaguars. He became their outside linebackers coach. This meant he helped train the players who played the outside linebacker position.
Back with the Ravens
Orr returned to the Baltimore Ravens on February 23, 2022. This time, he was the inside linebackers coach. He helped the players in the middle of the defense improve their skills.
On February 1, 2024, Zach Orr got a big promotion. He became the defensive coordinator for the Baltimore Ravens. This means he is now in charge of the entire defensive strategy for the team. He took over this role after Mike Macdonald left to become a head coach for another team.

Zach Orr comes from a family of football players. His dad, Terry Orr, used to play tight end for the Washington Redskins.
Zach also has three brothers who played college football. His older brother, Terrance, played at Texas State. His younger brother, Nick, played at TCU. And his youngest brother, Chris, played at Wisconsin and is now a coach himself, after playing in the NFL and USFL.
