Zim is a small, unincorporated community in McDavitt Township, located in St. Louis County, Minnesota, United States. An unincorporated community is a place that doesn't have its own local government. Instead, it's part of a larger township or county.
Where is Zim Located?
Zim is found in the state of Minnesota. It is about 14 miles southwest of the city of Eveleth. You can find it where two roads meet: Saint Louis County Highway 7 and County Road 27. The Saint Louis River flows nearby, adding to the natural beauty of the area.
A Look at Zim's Past
The community of Zim got its name from a lumberman. His last name was Zimmerman, and he ran a logging camp in the area a long time ago. A post office was opened in Zim in 1899. It served the community for many years before closing in 1990.
Nature and Fun in Zim
Zim is close to a special place called the Sax–Zim Bog. This bog is famous around the world for birdwatching. Many different kinds of birds live or visit here. Birdwatchers from everywhere come to see them.
Every February, the Sax–Zim Winter Birding Festival takes place. It's a big event for bird lovers. The bog itself was named after Zim and another nearby community called Sax.
Zim is also home to Jordan Baker. He is well-known for writing down rock music notes. He has created songbooks for famous bands like Dream Theater, Steve Vai, and Metallica.
