Ümit Aydın Davala (born 30 July 1973) is a famous Turkish football coach and former player. He was known for playing as a defender or midfielder. Ümit Davala achieved great success with Galatasaray. He helped them win many important titles. These included four Süper Lig championships and three Turkish Cups. He also won the UEFA Cup and UEFA Super Cup between 1996 and 2001. Later, he won the 2003–04 Bundesliga with Werder Bremen in Germany.
Davala also played for the Turkish national team. He played in 41 international matches and scored 4 goals. He was a key player when Turkey won a bronze medal at the 2002 FIFA World Cup.

Playing for Clubs
Ümit Davala started his football journey playing for several clubs. These included VfR Mannheim, ASV Feudenheim, Türkspor Mannheim, Afyonspor, Diyarbakırspor, and İstanbulspor.
Success with Galatasaray
In 1997, Davala joined Galatasaray. This was a very successful time for him. He helped the club win the Turkish championship three times in a row. In 2000, he scored two goals in the Turkish Cup final against Beşiktaş, helping Galatasaray win the cup. That same year, he also helped Galatasaray win the UEFA Cup final against Arsenal. They then won the 2000 UEFA Super Cup against Real Madrid.
Moving to Italy and Germany
In September 2001, Davala moved to AC Milan in Italy. He wanted to follow his former coach, Fatih Terim, who had become Milan's coach. However, Terim left Milan soon after, and Davala did not play as much.
In June 2002, Davala moved to Inter Milan. He was then loaned back to Galatasaray for a season. In July 2003, he was loaned to Werder Bremen in Germany. There, he helped the team win both the Bundesliga (German league) and the DFB-Pokal (German cup) in the same season. Werder Bremen then signed him permanently in July 2004. Unfortunately, injuries made it hard for him to play often. A hip injury in October 2005 was very serious. He left the club in early 2006 and then retired from professional football.
Playing for Turkey
Ümit Davala was an important player for the Turkish national team. He played in major tournaments like UEFA Euro 2000 and the 2002 FIFA World Cup.
2002 FIFA World Cup Hero
At the 2002 FIFA World Cup, Davala was easy to spot because of his cool mohawk haircut. He scored a goal against China in the group stage. He also scored the winning goal against Japan in the second round. In the quarter-finals, he made a great pass that led to İlhan Mansız's "golden goal" against Senegal. Turkey finished the tournament in third place, which was a huge achievement!
Futsal Career
After retiring from professional football, Davala tried playing futsal. Futsal is a type of indoor football played on a hard court. He was even called up to the Turkey national futsal team. He played in games to try and qualify for the 2010 UEFA Futsal Championship.
Coaching Career
Ümit Davala also became a football coach. He was the head coach for the Turkish national under-21 team until June 2008. After that, he joined Galatasaray S.K. as an assistant manager. He returned to Galatasaray as an assistant manager again in June 2011.
Musical Career
After he stopped playing football, Ümit Davala surprised many people by releasing some rap songs! He even worked with a famous Turkish musician named Kayahan on one of his songs.
