Ümit Aydın Davala (born July 30, 1973) is a Turkish football coach and former player. He was known for playing as a defender or midfielder. During his time at Galatasaray, he won many important titles. These included four Süper Lig championships, three Turkish Cups, one UEFA Cup, and one UEFA Super Cup between 1996 and 2001. He also won the 2003–04 Bundesliga with Werder Bremen in Germany. Davala played for the Turkish national team 41 times, scoring 4 goals. He was a key part of the Turkish team that won a bronze medal at the 2002 FIFA World Cup.

Playing for Football Clubs

Ümit Davala played for several clubs early in his career. These included VfR Mannheim, ASV Feudenheim, Türkspor Mannheim, Afyonspor, Diyarbakırspor, and İstanbulspor. He then joined Galatasaray in 1997.

Success with Galatasaray

At Galatasaray, Davala became a very successful player. He helped the club win the Turkish championship three times in a row. In 2000, he scored two goals in the Turkish Cup final against Beşiktaş, helping Galatasaray win the cup. That same year, he helped Galatasaray win the UEFA Cup final against Arsenal. They also won the 2000 UEFA Super Cup against Real Madrid. These were huge achievements for the club.

Moving to Italy and Germany

In September 2001, Davala moved to AC Milan in Italy. He wanted to follow his former coach from Galatasaray, Fatih Terim, who became Milan's head coach. However, Terim was replaced by Carlo Ancelotti a few months later. After this, Davala did not play as much for Milan.

In June 2002, Davala was traded to Inter Milan. But he was immediately loaned back to Galatasaray. In July 2003, he was loaned to Werder Bremen in Germany. There, he helped the team win both the Bundesliga (the German league) and the DFB-Pokal (the German cup) in the same season. In July 2004, Werder Bremen signed him permanently. However, injuries made it hard for him to play often. A hip injury in October 2005 was very serious. He was released by the club in early 2006 and then retired from professional football.

Playing for Turkey

Davala was an important player for the Turkish national team. He played in UEFA Euro 2000 and the 2002 FIFA World Cup.

2002 FIFA World Cup Heroics

At the 2002 FIFA World Cup, Davala was easy to spot because of his unique mohawk haircut. He scored a goal against China in the group stage. He then scored the winning goal against Japan in the second round. He also made a great pass that led to İlhan Mansız's "golden goal" against Senegal in the quarter-finals. Turkey finished the tournament in an amazing third place, winning a bronze medal.

Futsal Career

After retiring from professional football, Davala also played futsal at an international level. Futsal is a type of indoor football played on a smaller court. He was called up to the Turkey national futsal team. He played in the qualifiers for the 2010 UEFA Futsal Championship.

Coaching Career

Ümit Davala later became a football coach. He was the head coach of the Turkey national under-21 team until June 2008. He then joined Galatasaray S.K. as an assistant manager. He worked there until October 2008. Davala returned to Galatasaray as an assistant manager again in June 2011.

Musical Career

After he stopped playing football, Davala also released some rap songs. He even worked with the famous Turkish musician Kayahan on one of his songs.
