The Jacobite Rebellion
In 1715, a group known as the Jacobites started a rebellion in Scotland. They wanted to put James Francis Edward Stuart on the throne. He was also known as "The Old Pretender." The Jacobites believed he was the rightful king, not George I of Great Britain.
The Jacobites had some early success. They managed to take over a large part of Scotland. However, the British Army soon stepped in. The Jacobites were eventually defeated, and their rebellion ended.
A New King in France
In 1715, a very important king died in France. This was Louis XIV of France, who had ruled for a very long time. He was known as the "Sun King."
After Louis XIV died, his great-grandson became the new king. This was Louis XV of France. He was only five years old when he became king. This meant that other people had to help him rule France until he was old enough.
