The 2010 US Open men's singles tennis tournament was a big event! It was held in New York City. The final match was between Rafael Nadal from Spain and Novak Djokovic from Serbia.

Rafael Nadal won the championship, beating Novak Djokovic with a score of 6–4, 5–7, 6–4, 6–2. This was Nadal's ninth major tennis title. With this win, he achieved something very special called the career Golden Slam. This means he won all four major tennis tournaments (the French Open, Wimbledon, the US Open, and the Australian Open) and an Olympic gold medal in his career.

Nadal also became the first man since Rod Laver in 1969 to win the French Open, Wimbledon, and the US Open all in the same year. He also made history by winning a "Surface Slam." This means he won major titles on all three main types of tennis courts: clay, grass, and hard courts, all in the same calendar year. He only lost one set during the whole tournament, which was to Djokovic in the final.

Juan Martín del Potro was the champion from the year before. However, he could not play in the 2010 tournament. He had surgery on his wrist in May and was still recovering. This made him one of only three men in the modern tennis era not to defend their US Open title.

It was also a first in history for the US Open. No American male tennis player was ranked in the top eight players for the tournament.
