Abul Kashem Fazlul Huq (born October 26, 1873 – died April 27, 1962) was a very important leader from Bengal in the early 20th century. People often called him Sher-e-Bangla, which means "Tiger of Bengal." He was known for his strong speeches and for fighting for what he believed in.
He held many big jobs during his life. He was the General Secretary of the Indian National Congress from 1918 to 1919. Later, he became the Education Minister in 1924. He was also the first Muslim Mayor of Calcutta in 1935.
One of his most important roles was being the Chief Minister of undivided Bengal from 1937 to 1943. After that, he served as the Chief Minister of East Pakistan in 1954. He also worked as the Home Minister of Pakistan from 1955 to 1956. Later, he became the Governor of East Pakistan from 1956 to 1958. He even served as the Food and Agriculture Minister of Pakistan from 1958 to 1961.
His Final Days
Abul Kashem Fazlul Huq passed away on Friday, April 27, 1962. He was 89 years old. His funeral was a very large event, with over half a million people attending. This shows how much he was respected and loved by the people.
To honor him, all schools and colleges in Pakistan were closed on April 30. Many important officials from Pakistan also attended his funeral. He is remembered as a great leader who worked tirelessly for his people.
