How Al Ahli Tripoli Started
In the mid-1900s, Libya was working towards becoming an independent country. During this time, many sports and youth clubs were formed. This was a way to bring people together and help remove the British forces.
A group of young people in Tripoli wanted to name their club Al Istiqlal. This name means Independence. However, the British government did not like this name. They worried it might cause a rebellion. So, they refused the name.
The club was then named Al-Ahl Tripoli. This name literally means "Family". But it is also understood as "The People's", meaning it's a club for everyone. The club's colors are green and white. Green was chosen to represent independence, peace, and hope for the country. The club officially began on September 19, 1950.
