Alejandro Lozano Morales (born March 17, 1939 – died March 30, 2003) was a talented Spanish artist. He was known for his amazing paintings and especially for his mosaic murals. A mosaic mural is a large picture made from many small pieces of colored glass or stone.

Life of Alejandro Lozano

Alejandro Lozano was born in a place called La Toba, in Guadalajara, Spain. He studied humanities (subjects like history and literature) at the El Pardo Seminary in Madrid, Spain, from 1951 to 1957. He became a priest on March 13, 1965.

From 1965 to 1969, he studied at the Conservatori Municipal d’Arts Massana (Applied Arts School) in Barcelona. Here, he became an expert in painting, making murals, and fixing old artworks. He was a Capuchin brother and lived in the Pompeia cloister in Barcelona.

In the summer of 1966, he took painting classes in Perugia (Italy). That same year, he started studying at the Fine Arts University of Barcelona. In 1968, he took more advanced courses in Perugia, Italy, and had an art show there.

Between 1970 and 1972, Alejandro created a huge mosaic mural called "Good News." It was 10 meters long and 2 meters high! This mural was for the altarpiece (the decorated screen behind the altar) of a church in Marbella (Málaga, Spain). The mural was curved to fit the wall, almost like it was giving a hug.

From 1972 to 1974, he made another massive mosaic called "Calvary," which was 9 meters by 5 meters. This one was placed at the main altar of the Cathedral of Tucupita in Delta Amacuro, Venezuela. At the same time, he created two other mosaics for the same cathedral: "Saint Francis and Brother Sun" (15 square meters) and "Divina Pastora" (15 square meters).

He also became a Drawing Teacher in Barcelona, which allowed him to teach art to others.

From 1975 to 1978, he made more murals for Tucupita’s Cathedral. These included "Annuntiation," "Catequesis," "Baptism in the mission," "Christ and the Samaritan," and "Christ’s Baptism." He also made round mosaic murals for the choir and central part of the cathedral, featuring saints like "Santa Cecilia" and "Saint Pius X."

In May 1975, he left the Capuchin order and married Francisca Tormo in Esparreguera (Catalonia, Spain).

From November to October 1978, he traveled to Venezuela again to finish the murals for Tucupita’s Cathedral. In July 1981, he earned his Fine Arts degree from the University of Barcelona.

On September 26, 1982, Tucupita's Cathedral was officially opened. Important people like the Nuncio (a representative of the Pope), several Bishops, and the president of Venezuela were there.

After this, Alejandro continued creating beautiful murals and paintings. He also kept teaching painting and drawing in Barcelona, his favorite city. He passed away in Barcelona when he was 63 years old.
