Playing for Clubs
Starting at Persepolis
Alireza joined the main team of Persepolis when he was only 16 years old. He played his first game on October 17, 2006, against Saipa. In that game, he even saved a very important penalty kick!
Before joining the senior team, Alireza played for Persepolis's youth teams since 2002. He was discovered by coaches from the Persepolis Football School.
During the 2007–08 season, Alireza didn't play much. There were two other experienced goalkeepers ahead of him. But he still signed a new contract with the club.
In the 2008–09 season, Alireza got a big chance. The other goalkeepers got injured, so he became the main goalkeeper for almost every game. He even trained with the famous Iranian goalkeeper, Ahmad Reza Abedzadeh.
Alireza made history in the 2007–08 season. He became the youngest captain ever for Persepolis in a 2–1 win against Saipa.
Moving to Rubin Kazan
In December 2011, a team from Russia called Rubin Kazan wanted Alireza to join them. He officially left Persepolis on January 9, 2012.
Just five days later, on January 14, 2012, Alireza signed a four-year contract with Rubin Kazan. He played his first friendly match for them soon after.
Back to Persepolis (on loan)
On July 18, 2013, Alireza returned to Persepolis. He signed a six-month loan deal with his old club.
He played his first game back on October 23, 2013. It was a Hazfi Cup match where Persepolis won 5–1. He also played another Hazfi Cup game and didn't let the other team score any goals. His loan ended on December 3, 2013.
Playing in Portugal (on loan)
Alireza went back to Rubin Kazan for a short time. In January 2014, he moved to Portugal to play for Sporting Covilhã on loan. This team was in the Segunda Liga, which is Portugal's second division.
With Alireza as their goalkeeper, Sporting Covilhã managed to avoid being moved down to a lower league. After playing 14 games, his loan ended, and he returned to Rubin.
Later, on August 24, 2014, Alireza signed another one-year loan deal. This time, he joined Penafiel, a team in Portugal's top league, the Primeira Liga.
He helped Penafiel win their first game on September 20, keeping a "clean sheet" (meaning no goals were scored against them). In February 2015, he was even named the Player of the Week for his great performance.
Return to Rubin Kazan (again)
Alireza went back to Rubin Kazan for the 2015–16 season. He played in a friendly game in July 2015. His first official game for Rubin was in the Russian Cup on September 24, 2015.
Joining Marítimo
On January 22, 2016, Alireza signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with Marítimo, another team in Portugal's top league. He joined his old coach, Nelo Vingada, there.
Alireza made his league debut for Marítimo on February 14, 2016. He kept his first clean sheet for the club on February 28. He left Marítimo in August 2016.
Playing in Sweden
On March 13, 2017, Alireza signed a one-year contract with AFC Eskilstuna, a Swedish club in the top league, Allsvenskan.
Soon after joining, he got a serious injury and couldn't play for several months. He started training again in late June 2017. Alireza finally played his first game for Eskilstuna on July 8, 2017.
He played very well after returning from his injury. In August, he was even named in the Allsvenskan team of the week. On August 19, 2017, he helped his team score a goal in a 3–1 win.
On March 13, 2018, he signed a short contract with another Swedish club, GIF Sundsvall. He left the team in May 2018.
Playing for Iran

Youth Teams
Alireza led Iran's Under-15 team to the finals of a tournament in Qatar in 2002. He was also the main goalkeeper for Iran's Under-17 team in 2004. He played all three games for Iran's Under-20 team in 2006.
Olympic Team
Alireza was invited to play for Iran's Under-23 team for the Asian Games 2006. However, he didn't play any matches there. He was invited again later but missed many training sessions.
Senior National Team
Alireza was first called up to the main Iran national football team in 2010. In 2012, he played in a game against Bahrain that ended in a 0–0 draw.
2014 FIFA World Cup

On June 1, 2014, Alireza was chosen to be part of Iran's team for the 2014 FIFA World Cup. This is a huge international football tournament.
On June 16, 2014, he started in Iran's first World Cup match against Nigeria. Alireza became the first Iranian goalkeeper to keep a clean sheet in a World Cup game, which means no goals were scored against him. The game ended in a 0–0 tie.
He also played in Iran's next two matches against Argentina and Bosnia and Herzegovina. He played very well against Argentina, saving shots from famous players like Lionel Messi. However, Messi scored the only goal in the last minute of the game.
In Iran's final group match, they lost 3–1 to Bosnia and Herzegovina. This meant Iran was out of the World Cup.
2015 AFC Asian Cup
Alireza was also part of Iran's team for the 2015 AFC Asian Cup. This is another big tournament for Asian teams. He was one of only three goalkeepers who kept a clean sheet throughout all the group stage matches.
