Alpha and Omega is a fun computer-animated adventure movie from 2010. It was directed by Ben Gluck and Anthony Bell. The film features the voices of famous actors like Justin Long, Hayden Panettiere, Dennis Hopper, Danny Glover, and Christina Ricci.
The story is about two young wolves named Kate and Humphrey. They are very different. Kate is an "Alpha" wolf, strong and responsible. Humphrey is an "Omega" wolf, who loves to have fun. Even though they are from different parts of their wolf pack, they fall in love.
But there's a problem! Kate and Humphrey are taken far away to Idaho by park rangers. They need to find their way back home to Jasper Park. If they don't, a big fight might start between their two wolf packs. This movie was shown at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 8, 2010. It came out in theaters on September 17, 2010.
Even though some grown-ups didn't give the movie great reviews, it became popular. It led to a series of other movies that came out later.

Plot
The story begins in Jasper National Park in Alberta, Canada. Kate (Hayden Panettiere) is an "Alpha" wolf. She trains with her father, Winston (Danny Glover), who leads the Western pack. Kate grows up to be a skilled hunter.
One day, Kate meets two wolves from the Eastern pack. They are looking for food in the Western territory, which is against the rules. A fight almost starts, but Humphrey (Justin Long) steps in. Humphrey is an "Omega" wolf and Kate's childhood friend. He has feelings for Kate, but Alpha and Omega wolves are not allowed to be together.
The two wolf packs have been rivals for a long time. Tony (Dennis Hopper), the leader of the Eastern pack, had led his wolves into Western territory for food. To make peace, Winston and Tony decide that Kate must marry Tony's son, Garth (Chris Carmack). Kate agrees because she feels it's her duty to help her pack. She meets Garth at the Moonlight Howl.
Garth seems perfect, but he's not very smart and has a terrible howl. Kate is surprised and talks to Humphrey about it. Suddenly, park rangers use tranquilizer darts on them. Kate and Humphrey are taken to Sawtooth National Recreation Area in Idaho. There, they meet a goose named Marcel (Larry Miller) and his duck friend, Paddy (Eric Price).
Kate and Humphrey learn they were moved to help increase the wolf population. Kate is upset, but Humphrey is excited because he can be with Kate. Marcel and Paddy agree to help the wolves get back home to Jasper Park.
Meanwhile, back in Jasper, both wolf packs realize Kate is missing. Tony warns Winston that if Kate doesn't return to marry Garth by the next full moon, a war will begin. Kate's sister, Lilly (Christina Ricci), has a crush on Garth. She offers to show him around while they wait for Kate.
Kate and Humphrey's journey home is interrupted at a gas station. Humphrey eats a cream-filled cupcake, and a French Bulldog sees him. The dog's owner thinks Humphrey is sick. Kate protects Humphrey from the man, and they both run into the forest. Later, they cross a dangerous ravine. Humphrey saves Kate from falling.
The next morning, Marcel and Paddy find them. They tell Kate and Humphrey about a train that can take them to Jasper. While climbing a snowy mountain, Humphrey meets a grizzly bear cub. A small accident happens, and the cub gets hurt. Three angry adult grizzly bears appear. Kate saves Humphrey, and they slide down the mountain. They manage to jump onto the passing train just in time.
During this time, Lilly and Garth spend more time together and start to like each other. Lilly kindly teaches Garth how to howl properly. On the train, Humphrey and Kate also start to fall in love. They howl together.
By now, the full moon has arrived, and the two wolf packs begin to fight. As the train passes Jasper, Kate and Humphrey see the war. Kate stops the fight by saying she will marry Garth. The next day, Humphrey is heartbroken. He says goodbye to Kate, Marcel, and Paddy. He decides to leave alone, which makes Kate sad.
At the wedding ceremony, Kate changes her mind. She tells everyone she loves Humphrey. Garth then says he loves Lilly. An Alpha wolf marrying an Omega wolf is against pack rules. A big fight starts between the packs. But then, a huge group of caribou (reindeer) stampedes through.
Winston and Tony get caught in the stampede. Kate and Humphrey, who decided to stay, rush in to save them. They succeed, but Kate gets hit by a caribou. Humphrey quickly shields her with his body. After the stampede, Humphrey tries to wake Kate up. He is heartbroken, thinking he never told her how he felt. Humphrey howls sadly, and all the other wolves howl with him.
Then, Kate wakes up! Everyone is happy. Kate and Humphrey quietly tell each other they love each other. Winston and Tony decide to change the old rule. Now, Alphas and Omegas can marry. They agree to unite the two packs through Garth and Lilly's marriage.
Later, at the Moonlight Howl, all the wolves celebrate. Kate and Humphrey, and Garth and Lilly, are together. They have broken the old traditions. The movie ends with Humphrey and Kate howling a beautiful song together.
