Amelia Abascal Gómez (born 8 February 1920) was a talented artist. She was a Spanish-born Mexican painter, sculptor, and ceramist.

Amelia Abascal's Life and Art
Amelia Abascal was born in Madrid, Spain, in 1920. She was mostly a self-taught artist, meaning she learned many of her skills on her own.
Moving to Mexico
In 1940, when she was 20 years old, Amelia moved to Mexico. There, she took classes in chemistry. She used her knowledge of chemistry in her art, especially in her painting, ceramics, and designs.
Representing Mexico
Amelia Abascal became a well-known artist in Mexico. In 1968, she was one of only four artists chosen to represent Mexico. This was for an important exhibition of Latin American painting held in Argentina.
After this exhibition, Amelia became even more famous. She had her own special art show at the Misrachi Art Gallery in Mexico City in 1968. This show helped her gain a lot of praise for her unique artwork.

At the same 1967 exhibition, Amelia's work was shown alongside pieces by Carlos Merida. He was a famous artist known for mixing European and Latin American art styles.
