Amra Bangali (which means "We Are Bengalis" in Bengali) is a political party in India. It is based on the ideas of Progressive Utilization Theory (PROUT), a way of thinking about how society and the economy should work. This party started because some people were speaking negatively about Bengalis in Northeast India.

Amra Bangali became well-known for a short time in the mid-1980s. During that period, it even won some local government seats in areas near the border. Today, the party is involved in different activities and protests. For example, it has protested against groups in Darjeeling who want to create a new state called Gorkhaland. The party also spoke out against the National Register of Citizens for Assam and the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019.

The party's ideas come from Prabhat Ranjan Sarkar's thoughts on how people should have a say in both the economy and politics. Amra Bangali has groups in West Bengal and other states where many Bengalis live. These states include Tripura, Bihar, Odisha, Assam, and Jharkhand. The party's biggest political success was in Tripura during the 1980s, when it gained seats in the state's main assembly.

Bhuban Bijoy Majumder, who lived in Tripura, was a well-known leader of the party.

What is Bangalistan?

Bangalistan is a name for a proposed state in India for Bengalis. It is also seen as a self-sufficient area for social and economic activities. This idea is supported by people who follow the Amra Bangali party. It is a social movement based on Prabhat Ranjan Sarkar's ideas about society, economy, and politics (PROUT).

The region of Bengal has been divided many times in the past. Sad events, like the Mandai massacre and Nellie massacre, show the difficult situations Bengalis have faced in India. The Amra Bangali party protested against the National Register of Citizens for Assam. Bengalis hope to create Bangalistan to protect themselves from unfair treatment. The party imagines Bangalistan would include all of West Bengal, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Tripura, and parts of Assam, Bihar, and Jharkhand.

Key Demands of Amra Bangali

The Amra Bangali party has several important demands:

  • Just like Marathi, Punjabi, and Tamils have their own home regions in India, Bengalis should also have their homeland, called Bangalistan.
  • The Bengali language should be used for all official and unofficial work throughout Bangalistan.
  • A special Bengali Regiment should be brought back into the Indian Army, similar to the Maratha and Sikh regiments.
  • All Bengali people who have moved to India should be given Indian citizenship without any problems.
  • Changes made to the Citizenship Charter in 1986 and 2003 should be cancelled.
  • In the entire North-East, including Manipur and Assam, there is a plan to stop Bengalis from voting and treat them as outsiders. This must be stopped right away.
  • All local young people should be given 100% employment, following the Progressive Utilization Theory (PROUT).
  • Planning should be done at a local level, and farms should be treated like industries.
  • Advertisements and TV shows that disrespect women should be stopped immediately.
