Ancient Oaks is part of Lower Macungie Township. It got its name from a housing area, or "subdivision," called Ancient Oaks. This area is located near Pennsylvania Route 100, just north of Macungie. In 2020, about 6,995 people lived in Ancient Oaks.

This community is a suburb of Allentown, which is the third-largest city in Pennsylvania. Ancient Oaks is also part of the larger Lehigh Valley area. This whole metropolitan area had over 861,000 people in 2020.

Ancient Oaks is found in the southern part of Lehigh County. Its exact location is 40°32′9″N 75°35′24″W / 40.53583°N 75.59000°W / 40.53583; -75.59000. Pennsylvania Route 100 runs along the southwestern edge of the community. This highway can take you about 2 miles (3.2 km) southeast to Macungie. It also goes the same distance northwest to U.S. Route 222, which is between Breinigsville and Trexlertown.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Ancient Oaks covers a total area of about 2.4 square miles (6.3 square kilometers). Almost all of this area is land. Only a tiny part, about 0.03%, is water. The Little Lehigh Creek flows through Ancient Oaks, heading east. This creek is a smaller stream that feeds into the Lehigh River. The water from the Lehigh River eventually joins the Delaware River.

It was one of the first big housing developments for middle-class families in the Lehigh Valley. Later, more parts were added: Ancient Oaks West in 1972 and Ancient Oaks South from 1985 to 1989.
