Andreas "Andi" Herzog, born on September 10, 1968, is a famous Austrian former football player and coach. He recently worked as an assistant coach for the South Korea team. During his playing career, he was an attacking midfielder, known for his skills especially at Werder Bremen. He played for the Austrian national team from 1988 to 2003, playing in 103 matches and scoring 26 goals. He also represented Austria in the 1990 and 1998 FIFA World Cup tournaments.

Playing Career
Early Days in Austria
Andi Herzog was born in Vienna, Austria. He began his football journey at a big local club called Rapid Vienna. For a short time in 1987–88, he played for a rival team, First Vienna, on loan. This move helped him improve his skills. After that, he returned to Rapid Vienna and became a well-known player there.
Success in Germany
Herzog's talent led him to move to Germany to play for Bundesliga team Werder Bremen. He spent eight years there in two different periods. In between, he played one season for Bayern Munich. While at Bayern Munich, he helped the team win the UEFA Cup in 1996. They won against Girondins de Bordeaux in a two-game final.
Later Career and Retirement
After his time in Germany, Herzog returned to Rapid Vienna in 2002. He later decided to finish his playing career with the Major League Soccer team Los Angeles Galaxy in the United States in 2004. He played well for a while, but his playing time decreased after a coaching change. On November 10, 2004, Andi Herzog announced that he was retiring from football.
Herzog was known as a very skillful attacking midfielder. He was especially good at scoring amazing goals from free-kicks. He was also the captain of the Rapid Vienna team and was even chosen for Rapid's "Team of the Century" in 1999.
International Matches
Andi Herzog first played for the Austrian national team in April 1988, in a friendly match against Greece. He played in two FIFA World Cups for his country: in 1990 and 1998. In the 1998 World Cup, he scored one goal against Italy from a penalty kick.
In May 2002, Herzog set a new record for Austria. He played his 96th match, passing the previous record held by striker Anton Polster. His last international game was in April 2003, against Scotland. Overall, he played in 103 matches and scored 26 goals for Austria. He held the record for the most appearances for Austria until Marko Arnautović played his 104th game on September 26, 2022.
Coaching Career
After retiring as a player, Andi Herzog moved into coaching. On January 23, 2015, he became the coach for the USA's under-23 national team.
On August 1, 2018, Herzog was announced as the coach of Israel's national team. He coached the team for almost two years. On June 24, 2020, he left his position, and his Austrian colleague, Willibald Ruttensteiner, took over as Israel's head coach. Herzog has also worked as an assistant coach for the United States and South Korea national teams.
Personal Life
Andreas Herzog is married and has two sons. He lives in Breitenfurt bei Wien, Austria.
His father, Anton "Burli" Herzog, was also a football player. He played in the Austrian Bundesliga from 1961 to 1975 for teams like Austria Wien and Admira/Wacker Mödling. Andi Herzog grew up in Vienna-Meidling.
