Andreas Ivanschitz (born on October 15, 1983) is a retired footballer from Austria. He was known for playing as an attacking midfielder, which is a player who helps both with scoring goals and defending.
Andreas had a long career, playing for many different teams over 18 years. Some of his clubs included Rapid Wien, Red Bull Salzburg, Panathinaikos, 1.FSV Mainz 05, Levante, Seattle Sounders FC, and Viktoria Plzen. He also played for the Austrian national team from 2003 and even represented his country at the UEFA Euro 2008 tournament.

Club Career Highlights
Andreas Ivanschitz started his football journey in his hometown of Eisenstadt, Austria. He joined a local youth team called ASK Baumgarten when he was just a kid. He played there for nine years, learning and improving his skills.
Starting with Rapid Wien
In 1998, when Andreas was 15, scouts from Rapid Wien, a big Austrian club, noticed his talent. He signed his first professional contract with them. He was only 16 years old when he played his first game for Rapid Wien in an Austrian Cup match in October 1999. His first official league game was in 2000.
Andreas played 177 games for Rapid Wien and scored 27 goals. He helped his team win the Austrian Championship title in the 2004–05 season. In 2003, he was even named "Austrian Footballer of the Year," which is a big award!
Moving to Other European Clubs
In January 2006, Andreas moved to Red Bull Salzburg. Later that year, in August 2006, he went to Greece to play for Panathinaikos on a two-year loan. A loan means he played for them temporarily. After playing well, he signed a permanent deal with Panathinaikos in 2008.
After three years in Greece, Andreas moved to Germany in July 2009. He joined Mainz 05 on another loan deal, which later became a permanent contract in January 2011.
Playing in Spain and the USA
On June 10, 2013, Andreas left Mainz and moved to Spain to play for Levante. He scored his first goal in La Liga, Spain's top football league, on August 31. It was a winning goal in the last moments of the game! He scored three goals in 29 games during his first season in Spain.
In August 2015, Andreas made a big move to the United States. He signed with Seattle Sounders FC in Major League Soccer (MLS). After recovering from an injury, he made his debut in September. He helped his team win the 2016 MLS Cup by scoring a penalty kick in the shootout. This was a huge win for the Sounders, as it was their first MLS Cup title!
International Career
Andreas Ivanschitz first played for the Austrian national team in February 2003. He played in a friendly match against Greece. He also represented Austria at the UEFA Euro 2008 tournament, which is a major competition for European national teams.
He played a total of 69 games for Austria and scored 12 goals during his international career.

Personal Life
Andreas Ivanschitz comes from a family that loves music. He enjoys playing different musical instruments in his free time. He is also part of the Burgenland Croat community, which is a Croatian minority group living in Austria.
Andreas's son, Ilia, is also a footballer. He currently plays for Red Bull Salzburg, following in his father's footsteps!
