Biography
Arkady Ter-Tadevosyan was born as Artush Oganesovich Tadevosyan. His birthplace was Tbilisi, which was then part of the Georgian SSR in the Soviet Union. After finishing high school, he decided to become an army officer.
He studied at military schools in Baku and Leningrad. He served in different places, including Afghanistan. There, he earned the nickname "Mountain Fox" because he was so good at fighting in tough, mountainous areas. He also served in places like East Germany, Czechoslovakia, and Armenia.
Later, he taught at the Armenian State Agrarian University. When the Soviet Union broke apart, a conflict began in Nagorno-Karabakh. In 1990, Ter-Tadevosyan helped organize the defense of Armenian villages. These villages were near the borders of Soviet Azerbaijan. He joined a group called the Sasuntsi Davit Detachment. Their goal was to protect the villages from attacks.
First Nagorno-Karabakh War

In 1992, he was chosen to lead a very important operation. This operation was called "Operation Wedding in the Mountains." Its goal was to take control of the important town of Shushi. On May 9, 1992, Armenian forces successfully captured Shushi. This was their first big military victory in the First Nagorno-Karabakh War.
In Armenia, people know Ter-Tadevosyan as the "mastermind" behind the capture of Shushi. This means he was the brilliant planner of the operation. He also helped create the Armed Forces of Armenia. He guided them through many challenges to become a strong army. On May 25, 1992, he was given the rank of Major General. This was for his great achievements during the war.
