The Armens (in Armenian: Արմեններ, Առամեններ) were ancient Armenian tribes. People sometimes called them Arman, Armenic, or Armanen. They are believed to be connected to the Hayasa-Azzi Tribes. The Armens eventually joined forces with the Hayasi tribes.
Some studies suggest that the group of languages called Indo-European might have started in a region known as Anatolia. Many stories describe the Armens as generally tall, with blond hair and blue eyes. This was different from their relatives, the Urartians, who often had black hair and black eyes and were usually smaller. Before the Indo-European-speaking "Armen" tribes arrived from the west, the Urartian state in that area was a group of many different peoples.

History of the Armens
At the end of the second millennium BC, another group of people, called Indo-Europeans, moved into the Armenian Highland. These people were closely related to the Thracians and Phrygians. The ancient Greeks called them Armens. They came from the Northern Balkans.
Where the Armens Settled
One idea is that the Armens originally came from Thrace and were related to the Phrygians. The Armens lived near the beginning of the Halys river, to the west of the Euphrates river. It seems the Armens mixed with another group from Asia. This group had a family name, Hai, which later became the name for their whole nation. The area where the Armens settled was a mountainous region. It had deep valleys and beautiful plains.
What "Armen" Means
The word "Armani" was mentioned in ancient Akkadian writings as early as 2400 BC. This word is an early form of Armen, Armin, or Arman. It shows which nation someone belonged to, much like names do for many cultures.
The Meaning of "AR MAN"
The word "AR MAN" means "Men of Ar" or "Children of Ar." The deity "AR" was a very important god in the Indo-European (also known as Aryan) religion. "AR" also meant things like "Create," "Creator," "Sun," "Light," "Life," and "Love." For example, the name Ar-Ar-At means "the Place of ARAR."
