Arthur Blundell Sandys Trumbull Hill, 3rd Marquess of Downshire (born October 8, 1788 – died September 12, 1845) was an important noble from Ireland and Britain. He was known by different titles during his life, first as Viscount Fairford and then as Earl of Hillsborough, before becoming the Marquess of Downshire.

Who Was Arthur Hill?
Arthur Hill was born in London. He was the oldest son of Arthur Hill, 2nd Marquess of Downshire, and his mother, Mary Sandys. When his father passed away in 1801, Arthur became the Marquess of Downshire at a young age.
His Early Life and Education
Arthur went to two famous schools. He studied at Eton, which is a well-known school for boys. After that, he attended Christ Church, Oxford, a college at Oxford University. He earned his Master of Arts degree in 1809 and a Doctor of Civil Law degree in 1810.
His Work and Public Service
In his early career, Arthur Hill was part of the Whig political group. The Whigs wanted to make important changes to how the government worked, especially to reform Parliament.
When the Grey Ministry came into power, Arthur received several important jobs. On March 25, 1831, he became the Colonel of the South Down Militia, which was a local military force. He also had a special role at the coronation of William IV on September 8, where he carried the second sword.
Later that year, he was appointed a deputy lieutenant of Berkshire on September 20. This was an important local role, helping to represent the King. On October 17, he became the Lord Lieutenant of Down, which was a new and very important position in Down, Ireland. Finally, on November 24, 1831, he was made a Knight of the Order of St Patrick, a special honor. He also received an honorary law degree from Cambridge University in 1835.
Supporting the Irish Language
Arthur Hill was a very strong supporter of the Irish language. He was the president of the Ulster Gaelic Society, which was started in 1830. In this role, he helped a lot to save old records of the Irish language. He also helped preserve Irish poetry, folk stories, and songs.
His Family
In 1811, Arthur married Lady Mary Windsor. She was the daughter of Other Windsor, 5th Earl of Plymouth. They had five children together:
