About Arthur Sarkissian
Arthur Sarkissian was born on May 11, 1960. He studied art at the School of Fine Arts in Yerevan, Armenia, starting in 1977. Later, in 1989, he continued his studies in drawing at the Yerevan State Pedagogical University. Today, he still lives and creates his art in Yerevan, Armenia.
Exploring Arthur Sarkissian's Art
Arthur Sarkissian creates abstract art. This means his art doesn't show things exactly as they look in real life. Instead, he uses shapes, colors, and lines to express feelings and ideas. He once said in 2005 that he wanted his painting style to be different from Socialist Realism. Socialist Realism was a type of art that showed realistic scenes, often promoting government ideas. Arthur wanted to be free to express himself in new ways.
How He Creates His Art
Arthur Sarkissian's paintings often mix different techniques. He combines traditional painting with silkscreen printing. He also adds interesting things to his canvases, like text, photographs, signs, and even parts of other paintings. He blends oil paint with everyday items he finds, making his art very unique.
His art style is similar to other famous artists like Robert Rauschenberg and Kurt Schwitters. You can also see influences from artists like Andy Warhol, Joan Miró, and Pablo Picasso in his work. Arthur Sarkissian shows how the idea of "collage" – putting different pieces together – is still very important in modern art.
Special Art Installations
Arthur Sarkissian also creates installation art. One of his famous works is called Closed Session. It features a row of seven chairs of different sizes, each standing on four lit lightbulbs. Sonia Balassanian, an art curator, described this piece as a funny way to comment on important people who make big decisions.
You can see some of his amazing artwork at the Museum of Modern Art in Yerevan.
