Asha Solette Philip (born 25 October 1990) is a talented English sprinter and a former junior gymnast. She is famous for her speed in races like the 100 metres and 60 metres. Asha made history as the first British woman to win a global 100-metre title at a young age. She achieved this amazing feat at the 2007 World Youth Championships when she was just 16.
After a serious knee injury in gymnastics, Asha returned to athletics in 2014. She quickly started winning medals for Great Britain and England. These included gold at the European Athletics Championships and bronze at the Commonwealth Games in the 4 × 100 metres relay.
In 2017, Asha won her first big individual title. She took home the gold medal in the 60 metres race at the 2017 European Athletics Indoor Championships. She also helped the Great Britain 4 × 100 metres relay team win Olympic bronze medals at the 2016 Rio Games and 2020 Tokyo Games. Asha is known for her fast starts and often runs the first part of relay races. She has also won silver medals at the World Championships in 2017 and 2019.
Asha Philip is a very successful athlete in her home country. She has won 10 national championships. This includes six victories in the 60 metres indoors and four victories in the 100 metres outdoors.

Asha Philip's Early Career
Asha started competing in double mini trampoline when she was only four years old. She became a World Junior Champion in this sport. She won a gold medal in the junior (15–16 years old) girls' category at a world competition in Eindhoven, Netherlands.
In July 2007, Asha won a gold medal in the 100 metres at the World Youth Athletics Championships. However, soon after, she suffered a serious cruciate ligament injury. This happened while she was representing Great Britain in a gymnastics event in Quebec, Canada. This injury meant she couldn't compete for three years. It also stopped her from being chosen for the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China.
Return to Athletics and Major Wins
After recovering from her injury, Asha focused only on athletics. She joined the Great Britain teams that won several important medals.
- In 2014, she won a silver medal in the 4 × 200 metres relay at the 2014 IAAF World Relays.
- In the same year, she won a gold medal in the 4 × 100 metres relay at the 2014 European Championships.
- Also in 2014, representing England, she earned a bronze medal in the 4 × 100 metres relay at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. She also finished fourth in the 100 metres final at those games.
In 2016, Asha competed at the Olympic Games in Rio. She reached the semi-finals of the 100 metres race. Later, she won a bronze medal in the 4 × 100 metres relay with her teammates Desiree Henry, Dina Asher-Smith, and Daryll Neita. This team set a new British record with a time of 41.77 seconds.
Asha continued her success, winning more medals:
- In 2017, she won gold in the 60 metres at the European Indoor Championships.
- She won silver medals in the 4 × 100 metres relay at the 2017 and 2019 World Championships.

Asha Philip's Personal Life
Asha Philip was born in Leyton, East London. Her father is from Antigua and her mother is from Jamaica. She went to Connaught School for Girls in Leytonstone. In 2012, she graduated from Kingston University with a degree in drama.
