Asia Muhammad (born April 4, 1991) is an American professional tennis player. She is especially good at playing doubles tennis, where two players team up against another pair. The WTA has ranked her as high as world No. 8 in doubles. She reached this high ranking on March 17, 2025.

Muhammad has won 13 doubles titles on the WTA Tour. This includes big wins like the 2024 Cincinnati WTA 1000 title with Erin Routliffe. She also won the 2025 Indian Wells title with Demi Schuurs.

She also played in the finals of other major tournaments. These include the 2022 Indian Wells with Ena Shibahara. She also reached the final at the 2024 Wuhan with Jessica Pegula. Besides these, Muhammad has won many other doubles titles. She has five titles on the Challenger Tour and 35 titles on the ITF Circuit. In singles, her highest ranking was No. 124 on April 24, 2017. She has won 14 ITF singles titles.

Starting Out in Tennis

Asia Muhammad trained at the No Quit Tennis Academy. Her coach, Tim Blenkiron, started working with her when she was a child. She was part of Andre Agassi's Team Agassi program in Las Vegas. This program helped her become a top junior player. When she was 16, she reached the finals of the Tennis Channel Open, which was a big step for her.

Professional Achievements

Muhammad has achieved great success in her professional career. She reached the semifinals of a major tournament, the Grand Slam, at the 2020 US Open. She also won two WTA 500 titles. These were the 2023 Adelaide International 1 and the 2024 Washington Open. For these wins, she teamed up with Taylor Townsend.

Because of her success, she reached a new career-high doubles ranking of world No. 24 on August 12, 2024. After winning her biggest title, the 2024 Cincinnati Open, a WTA 1000 event, with Erin Routliffe, she moved into the top 20 rankings. She then reached the final at the WTA 1000 2024 Wuhan Open with Jessica Pegula. She finished the 2024 season ranked No. 15.

In 2025, she continued to climb the rankings with her new partner, Demi Schuurs. They reached the top 10 on February 24, 2025. Together, Muhammad and Schuurs won the title at the 2025 BNP Paribas Open. They defeated top-ranked players like Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend. In the final, they beat Tereza Mihalikova and Olivia Nicholls.

About Asia's Life

Asia Muhammad was born in Long Beach, California. Her parents are Ron Holmes and Faye Muhammad. Her father, Ron Holmes, was a tall and talented point guard for the USC Trojans men's basketball team in the 1980s. Her mother, Faye, was also a point guard and a great track athlete at Long Beach State.

Asia is the oldest of three children. Her brother, Shabazz Muhammad, is a professional basketball player. He played for five seasons in the NBA. Her uncle, Stephone Paige, played nine seasons in the National Football League (NFL). He had 377 receptions in his career. Her aunt, Robin Holmes-Sullivan, played basketball for Cal State Fullerton for four years.

In 2020, Asia got engaged to her boyfriend, who is also a tennis player from Australia, Dayne Kelly.
