Shabazz Nagee Muhammad (born November 13, 1992) is an American professional basketball player. He currently plays for the Sagesse Club in the Lebanese Basketball League. Before turning pro, he played one season of college basketball for the UCLA Bruins. He was then chosen as the 14th pick in the 2013 NBA draft.
Muhammad was a top high school basketball player. He attended Bishop Gorman High School and was named Mr. Basketball USA and Naismith Prep Player of the Year in his final year. At UCLA, he earned All-American honors. He was also named to the all-conference first team in the Pac-12. He was even voted Pac-12 co-Freshman of the Year.

Early Life and Family
Shabazz Muhammad was born in Long Beach, California. His parents, Ron Holmes and Faye Muhammad, were both talented athletes. His father, Ron, was a great point guard for the USC Trojans men's basketball team. His mother, Faye, was a point guard and track star at Long Beach State.
Shabazz is the middle child. His older sister, Asia, is a professional tennis player. His younger brother, Rashad, played basketball in high school. When Shabazz was six years old, he was diagnosed with Tourette syndrome.
High School Basketball Career
Muhammad went to Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas Valley, Nevada. This school was known for its strong sports programs. He was one of the few freshmen to make the varsity basketball team.
In his junior year, Muhammad was a leader for Bishop Gorman. He averaged 25.1 points and 7.7 rebounds per game. He was also named the 2011 Gatorade Player of the Year for Nevada.
Muhammad was a diary keeper for SLAM Magazine during his senior year. He played in the 2012 McDonald's All-American game. He led the West team to a win and was named the MVP with 21 points. He also won the 2012 Powerade Jam Fest Dunk Contest. Experts rated him as one of the best high school players in the country.
College Basketball Journey
Many colleges wanted Shabazz Muhammad to play for them. He chose to attend UCLA on April 11, 2012.
Before his first game, Muhammad was temporarily unable to play. This was due to rules about unofficial visits to colleges. After missing three games, he was allowed to play again. His family had to repay about $1,600.
In his first game, Muhammad scored 15 points. He became a starter in the next game, scoring 21 points. He later scored a college-high 27 points, including a game-winning shot, against No. 7 Missouri.
Muhammad received national recognition for his play. He earned second-team All-American honors from Sporting News. He was also named to the All-Pac-12 first team. He shared the title of Pac-12 co-Freshman of the Year.
He finished the season averaging 17.9 points and 5.2 rebounds per game. While he was a strong scorer, he focused mainly on shooting. His defense also improved throughout the season.
Professional Basketball Career
Muhammad decided to enter the 2013 NBA draft on April 16, 2013. He was drafted 14th overall by the Utah Jazz. His draft rights were then traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Minnesota Timberwolves (2013–2018)
First Seasons (2013–2015)
Muhammad was assigned to the Iowa Energy in the NBA Development League in January 2014. He played well there, averaging 24.5 points. He was recalled by the Timberwolves soon after. He scored a season-high 20 points against the Phoenix Suns in February 2014. His first season ended early due to a knee injury.
In the 2014–15 season, Muhammad improved his game. He scored a career-high 30 points in December 2014. He was chosen to play in the Rising Stars Challenge during the 2015 NBA All-Star Weekend. However, his season ended early again due to a finger injury.
Later Seasons (2015–2018)
Muhammad played in all 82 games during the 2015–16 season. He averaged 10.5 points per game. He set a new career high with 35 points in a game against the Golden State Warriors.
In the 2016–17 season, he continued to work hard. He scored 22 points in 18 minutes against the Milwaukee Bucks in December 2016. He re-signed with the Timberwolves in September 2017. He played his final game for them in February 2018 before being waived.
Milwaukee Bucks (2018)
Muhammad signed with the Milwaukee Bucks in March 2018. He scored a season-high 22 points in a win against the Orlando Magic. He later re-signed with the Bucks for training camp but was waived before the season started.
Playing Overseas (2018–Present)
After his time in the NBA, Muhammad began playing basketball in other countries.
- Shanxi Brave Dragons (2018–2019): He signed with this team in the Chinese Basketball Association. He scored 60 points in one game in January 2019.
- Shenzhen Aviators (2019): He joined another Chinese team.
- Grand Rapids Gold (2021): He briefly signed with an NBA G League team.
- San Miguel Beermen (2022): He played for this team in the Philippine Basketball Association. He had a huge game with 57 points and 19 rebounds.
- Beirut Club (2023): He signed with a team in the Lebanese Basketball League.
- Guangdong Southern Tigers (2023): He returned to the Chinese Basketball Association.
