Economy and Jobs in Aubange
For many years, Aubange was known for its iron and steel making factories. There were two large factories in Athus and Halanzy. There was also a mine.
However, these factories faced tough competition from other countries. Especially from places in Asia and Africa. Making iron and steel became less profitable. Because of this, all the factories in the area eventually closed down.
Now, local leaders have worked to find new ways to help the economy. One important activity is the Railway Containers Terminal in Athus. This terminal handles thousands of large shipping containers every year. These containers come from big ports on the North Sea, like Antwerp and Rotterdam. They are then sent to places deep inside France, Germany, or Luxembourg.
