Bakermat's Music Journey

Starting Out: Vandaag (2012-2013)

Bakermat began his music career while studying psychology at Utrecht University. He also worked as a DJ in his free time. In 2012, he released his first two music collections, called "Zomer" and "Vandaag".

The song "Vandaag" became very popular. It included a famous speech by Martin Luther King Jr. called "I Have a Dream". This song became a hit in the Netherlands, Belgium, France, and the UK. Later, in 2014, "Vandaag" earned a platinum record in many countries. This means it sold a lot of copies!

Bakermat's unique dance music style inspired many other artists. They started making similar music, often called 'melodic house' or 'tropical house'. Some of these artists include Klingande, Kungs, Lost Frequencies, and Kygo.

Live Shows and the Bakermat Live Band (2014-2015)

Bakermat often makes his DJ shows special by adding live music. He performs with musicians playing instruments like saxophones, violins, and drums. In 2014, he formed the 'Bakermat Live Band' with six musicians. This band helped him create exciting live tours.

In 2014, Bakermat performed at the famous Tomorrowland festival. He even hosted his own stage there, called 'Bakermat & Friends'. This stage became a regular part of Tomorrowland in the following years.

Bakermat started his first tour with the Bakermat Live Band. He sold out the Olympia concert hall in Paris very quickly. His Europe Tour also sold out, including a show at London's Brixton Academy.

He also made a remix for Labrinth's song "Jealous". Later, he released his own song, "Teach Me". This song used sounds from gospel, soul, blues, and jazz music. It even included parts of songs by the American gospel singer, Shirley Caesar.

Bakermat even organizes his own 'Circus' festivals in Amsterdam. Many famous DJs have joined him at these shows, like Oliver Heldens and Robin Schulz.

Bakermat also started a monthly radio show called Bakermat's Circus. It was played on over 75 radio stations worldwide.

A famous event organizer, Duncan Stutterheim, praised Bakermat. He said Bakermat brought something "spectacular and refreshing" to the stage. He also noted that Bakermat didn't just play pre-recorded music during his shows. This led to Bakermat being invited to play at the Sensation event.
