Barre is a small town located in Orleans County, New York, United States. In 2010, about 2,025 people lived there. The town got its name from another place called Barre in Massachusetts.
The Town of Barre is found on the southern edge of Orleans County.

History of Barre
The Town of Barre was created in 1818. It was formed from a part of the Town of Gaines. The town was named after the hometown of one of its first settlers.
A special building called the Benjamin Franklin Gates House was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2009. This means it is an important historical site.

The southern border of Barre touches the Towns of Elba and Oakfield. These towns are in Genesee County.
