The men's 3x3 basketball tournament at the 2024 Summer Olympics took place in Paris, France. It started on July 30 and finished on August 5, 2024. All the exciting games were held at the Place de la Concorde. This was only the second time that 3x3 basketball for men was part of the Olympic Games.

In a very close final game, the Netherlands beat France 18–17 to win the gold medal. France earned the silver medal, playing in front of their home crowd. For the bronze medal, Lithuania won against Latvia, who had been the top team in the first round.

How the Tournament Worked

The tournament started with eight teams playing against each other. This is called a round robin. Each team played every other team once. The top two teams from this round robin went straight to the semifinals. Teams ranked third to sixth played in a special playoff round. After that, it became a knockout system, meaning if you lost, you were out!

Games could be won in two ways. A team could win by being the first to score 21 points. Or, if no team reached 21 points, the team with the highest score after 10 minutes won the game.

How Teams Qualified for the Olympics

To play in the Olympics, teams had to earn their spot. Eight teams competed in the men's 3x3 basketball tournament. Each country's Olympic Committee (NOC) sent a team of three players and one substitute. Teams qualified in a few different ways:

  • Some teams qualified based on their high ranking on the FIBA list.
  • Other teams earned their spot through special Olympic qualifying tournaments. These tournaments gave more countries a chance to compete.
