Exploring Bayview's Past

Bayview got its name because it offers a wonderful "view" over "Pittwater". This area was first explored in March 1788. Governor Arthur Phillip took a short trip here from Manly. He named Pitt Water after William Pitt the Younger. William Pitt was the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom at that time. In 1792, Captain John Hunter created a map. It showed all the bays and inlets in the area.

One of the first people to settle here was Patrick Bryan. He built a house in 1821. This house was on the land where the Bayview Golf Links are today.
