Beatriz Mesquita, also known as Bia Mesquita, is a famous Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) athlete from Brazil. She is known for having one of the best records in BJJ history. She has won many championships in both Gi (with the traditional uniform) and Nogi (without the uniform) styles.

Bia has won 24 major titles as a black belt. She holds the record for the most IBJJF World Championship titles at the black belt level, with 10 gold medals. This amazing achievement has earned her a spot in the IBJJF Hall of Fame.

Bia Mesquita's Amazing Career

Starting Young in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

Beatriz Mesquita started training in Brazilian jiu-jitsu when she was only five years old in 1996. Besides BJJ, she also learned judo, wrestling, and swimming. By the time she was 10, she had already won many big competitions. These included the Brazilian National Junior Championships and three State Championships.

Because of her talent, she was sent to train with a BJJ legend, Leticia Ribeiro, in Rio de Janeiro. When she was 15, she also trained in Freestyle wrestling and won a junior state title. Soon after, she decided to focus completely on BJJ. She earned her brown belt in June 2009. She received her black belt in March 2011, both from her teacher, Leticia Ribeiro.

Her Black Belt Success

As a black belt, Bia Mesquita continued to dominate. In 2017, she quickly defeated UFC fighter Mackenzie Dern in just 64 seconds. In June 2018, Bia won the Eddie Bravo Invitational (EBI) Women's Bantamweight Championship. She won by making her opponents give up in the semi-final and final matches.

On December 12, 2021, Bia won her 10th world title at the 2021 World Jiu-Jitsu Championship. She beat two tough opponents to achieve this milestone. At the 2022 ADCC World Championship, she won a bronze medal. She showed her skill by winning against Mayssa Bastos and Bianca Basílio.

In 2024, Bia continued to compete. She won a match at ADXC 3 by submission. She also earned a bronze medal in the under 65 kg division at the 2024 ADCC World Championship. Later, she won a silver medal in the women's absolute division at the same event.

Mixed Martial Arts Journey

In 2023, Bia Mesquita announced she would start a new challenge: Mixed martial arts (MMA). This means fighting using different styles like striking and grappling. She joined American Top Team, a famous training center, to prepare.

Bia had her first professional MMA fight on June 15, 2024. She won by making her opponent give up in the first round. She continued her winning streak in October and December 2024, winning both fights by submission in the first or second round.
