Beaver Mountain is a fun ski area located in northern Utah, United States. It first opened way back in 1939! You can find it high up in Logan Canyon in the Bear River Mountains. It's close to Bear Lake and the border with Idaho.

Even though it's smaller than some other Utah ski resorts, Beaver Mountain is super popular! Lots of people from nearby Logan, Utah State University, and the surrounding Cache Valley love to visit. People from the Bear Lake region, including southeastern Idaho, also enjoy skiing here.

The ski slopes mostly face east. This means they get a bit less snow than resorts that face west. Beaver Mountain doesn't use snowmaking machines. So, it relies completely on natural snowfall. Because of this, it often opens a few weeks later than other ski resorts in Utah.

"The Beav," as many call it, is about 27 miles (43 km) northeast of Logan. It's just a short drive off US-89. This road is also known as the Logan Canyon Scenic Byway, a special national scenic route. The closest town is Garden City, Utah, which is about 15 miles (24 km) away. The Idaho border is less than 3 miles (5 km) north. Bear Lake is about 6 miles (10 km) directly east. Salt Lake City is 110 miles (177 km) to the south.

The Seeholzer family owns and runs this ski area. Harry Seeholzer started it in 1939. His son, Ted, took over after him. Now, Ted's son, Travis, continues to run it as a family business.

What Can You Do There?

Beaver Mountain has great facilities for a fun day on the slopes.

Skiing and Snowboarding

You can enjoy alpine skiing and snowboarding here. These are the most popular activities. The mountain has 47 trails for all skill levels. About 35% are easy, 40% are more difficult, and 25% are for experts. There are also two terrain parks where you can practice tricks.

Other Fun Activities

The main lodge has a grill restaurant where you can grab a bite. There's also a full-service ski rental shop if you need gear. A ski shop is available for buying equipment. If you like cross-country skiing, there's a special area for Nordic skiing near the base.

The Lifts at Beaver Mountain

Beaver Mountain has several lifts to take you up the mountain.

Little Beaver Lift

The Little Beaver Lift is a triple chairlift. It mainly takes skiers to beginner-friendly areas. This lift was updated in 2011. It used to be a double chair. The new lift makes the run about 100 yards longer. It also includes an area that used to have a rope tow. From the top of this lift, you can access runs like "Little Beaver" and "Tiny Tim." You can also get to the "Goat Trail" from here. This trail leads to the "Beaver Face Lift" and "Harry's Dream Lift" further up the mountain.

Beaver's Face Lift

The Beaver's Face Lift is a double chairlift. It takes you to intermediate and advanced runs only. This was the very first chairlift on the mountain. It started running in late 1961. It gives you access to some exciting intermediate and expert terrain.

Harry's Dream Lift

The Harry's Dream Lift is a triple chairlift. It was first installed as a double chair in the fall of 1969. In March 2006, a part broke, closing the lift for the rest of the season. Over that summer and fall, the entire lift was replaced with a newer, triple chair. It takes you almost to the very top of the mountain. This lift is named after the founder, Harold Seeholzer. He passed away in 1968, the year before this lift was installed.

Marge's Triple Lift

Marge's Triple Lift helps you reach several intermediate and advanced runs. It also provides access to the larger of the two terrain parks on the mountain. You can only get to this lift by first taking the Harry's Dream Lift. Marge is the daughter-in-law of the founder. She is married to his second son, Ted. Ted and Marge have owned the ski area since 1997. Ted used to be the general manager, and Marge handled ticket sales.
