Benjamin Caine Hollioake (born 11 November 1977 – died 23 March 2002) was an English cricketer. He played for Surrey County Cricket Club and the England cricket team. Ben was born in Australia but moved to England. He made his first-class cricket debut for Surrey in 1996.
Ben was a right-handed batsman and a right-arm seam bowler. This meant he was an all-rounder – good at both batting and bowling. In 1997, he joined his older brother, Adam Hollioake, in the England ODI team. Later that year, Ben and Adam made their England Test debut in the same game. This was a special moment, as they were only the third pair of brothers to do this!
Ben Hollioake played in two Test matches and 20 ODI games for England. Sadly, he passed away in a car crash in Australia when he was just 24 years old.

About Ben Hollioake
Early Life and Cricket Beginnings
Ben Hollioake was born in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, in 1977. His father was an Australian engineer, and his mother was Indonesian. Ben started playing cricket in Hong Kong, where his family lived for two years when he was very young. They then moved to England.
He also played junior cricket in Sydney, Australia. Even at 9 years old, he was known for his fast bowling and great batting skills. Ben moved to England in 1984 with his brother, Adam. He went to school at Millfield Preparatory School and later at Wesley College, Perth in Australia.
Ben's Cricket Career Highlights
Ben was a talented batsman who could hit the ball very powerfully. He was also a useful medium-pace bowler who often took important wickets. In 1994, he joined his brother Adam at the Surrey team.
Ben played his first big match for Surrey in 1996. He took four wickets against Yorkshire. That same year, he won the NBC Denis Compton Award, which is given to promising young cricketers.
In May 1997, when he was only 19, Ben was chosen to play for England's ODI team against Australia. In his first game, he scored 63 runs very quickly and was named the Man of the Match. England won that series 3-0! People started comparing him to the famous English all-rounder Ian Botham.
The next year, Ben had another amazing performance. He took two wickets and scored 98 runs for Surrey. This helped his team beat Kent in the final of the Benson & Hedges Cup. He was again named Man of the Match.
In August 1997, Ben and Adam Hollioake made their Test debuts together for England. They were the fifth pair of brothers to play for England in the same Test match. At 19 years old, Ben was England's youngest Test player since 1949. He played one more Test match in 1998 against Sri Lanka.
In 1999, Surrey gave Ben his special 'county cap'. However, his performance became a bit inconsistent for a while. After working hard on his skills, he played very well for Surrey again. This led to him being called back to the England ODI team in 2001.
In July 2001, he was once more the Man of the Match in the final of the Benson and Hedges Cup. He scored 73 runs, helping Surrey win against Gloucestershire.
Steve James, a writer for the Daily Telegraph, described Ben as someone who was "remarkably warm and gentle." He added that among younger players, Ben was simply "cool."
Ben's Passing
Ben Hollioake passed away on 23 March 2002 in Perth, Western Australia. He was involved in a car crash near his old school, Wesley College. He was 24 years old. His death was the youngest of any England Test cricketer.
Ben's Legacy
After Ben's death, his brother, Adam Hollioake, and his family started the Ben Hollioake Fund. This fund helps raise money for CHASE Hospice Care for Children. Many events have taken place to raise money, including a world record attempt for a continuous relay race in 2004.
At the Hong Kong Cricket Sixes tournament, the award for the best player is named the 'Ben Hollioake Award' in his honour.
His old club, Surrey, also set up an apprenticeship in 2003 for a promising young player. This is called the 'Ben Hollioake Award'.
