Ben Winston, born on October 13, 1981, is a British producer and director. He is also one of the people who started a company called Fulwell 73. He is very successful, having won 13 Emmy Awards and being nominated 33 times! In 2019, he even set a record for the most Emmy nominations in one year, with 8 nominations. Business Insider magazine called him "the most influential producer in television."

Ben Winston has worked on many popular TV shows and specials. He is an executive producer for The Late Late Show with James Corden and the Grammy Awards on CBS. He also works on The Kardashians for Hulu and Ed Sheeran: The Sum of it All for Apple TV. You might know his work on "Carpool Karaoke" too!

He was the executive producer and director for the Friends: The Reunion special. This show became super popular, breaking viewing records for Sky One and HBO Max. Another special he produced, Adele One Night Only, was the most-watched entertainment show on network TV in 2022. Ben Winston also helped create Drop the Mic for TBS and Game On! for CBS.

Ben Winston has also created and produced music specials for many famous artists. These include Bruno Mars, Harry Styles, Elton John, Sam Smith, Adele, Justin Bieber, Kacey Musgraves, Ben Platt, Gary Barlow, and Shawn Mendes. He also helped with a huge 10-hour live show called Global Citizen: Mandela 100 in South Africa, featuring stars like Beyoncé and Jay-Z. Plus, he has produced and directed documentaries and films for the band One Direction, including their movie One Direction: This Is Us.

His other big projects include four Brit Awards shows and two Tony Awards shows. He was also an executive producer for the UK version of The X Factor. He worked on the Christmas special of the TV show Gavin & Stacey for the BBC. This special became the most-watched scripted show since 2003 and won a BAFTA award in 2020. Ben Winston has won an MTV Video Music Award, three Brit Awards for directing, three PGA awards, and five Critics’ Choice Awards.

Ben Winston was born in 1981. He is the youngest of three children. His father is Robert Winston, Baron Winston, who is a well-known professor and politician. Ben Winston is Jewish.

He went to school at University College School. Then, he studied Broadcasting at the University of Leeds, graduating in 2004. Ben Winston is married to Meredith Winston. They have two daughters named Ruby, born in 2016, and Grace, born in 2019. Ruby's godfather is the famous singer Harry Styles.

Ben Winston's Career

Ben Winston started his career at Fulwell 73 in 2007. His first project there was co-producing a documentary called In The Hands of the Gods. Since then, he has produced and directed many shows. These include The Michael McIntyre Chat Show, Robbie Williams: One Night at The Palladium, and This is Justin Bieber. He also worked on One Direction: A Year In The Making and a long live show called 1D Day.

Working with James Corden

Ben Winston has often worked with his friend, the TV host James Corden. They have collaborated on many projects together. These include James Corden's World Cup Live and When Corden Met Barlow. For Red Nose Day, Ben Winston directed and co-wrote funny sketches for Gavin & Stacey.

He also co-directed a 3D documentary movie called JLS: Eyes Wide Open. This movie was very popular in the UK. However, it was later surpassed by another film he produced, One Direction: This Is Us.

The Start of Carpool Karaoke

In 2014, Ben Winston directed When Corden Met Barlow. This show featured a short segment called "Carpool Karaoke" with singer Gary Barlow. James Corden explained that he and Ben Winston thought it would be fun to see famous people singing their songs in everyday situations, like in a car stuck in traffic. This idea grew into the popular "Carpool Karaoke" segment on The Late Late Show with James Corden.
