Early Life and Playing Days
Clark graduated from A. P. Leto High School in Tampa, Florida, in 1985. He then went on to play middle linebacker for the University of Miami from 1985 to 1989. He got a big chance to show his skills in the 1988 Orange Bowl. He stepped in for another player and had an amazing game. Because of his great performance, he was named the Orange Bowl's Most Valuable Player (MVP).
In 1990, the Cincinnati Bengals picked Clark in the third round of the 1990 NFL draft. He was the 65th player chosen overall. He played two seasons in the National Football League (NFL) from 1990 to 1991. During this time, he played for both the Bengals and the Seattle Seahawks. After his time in the NFL, he also played two seasons with the Orlando Predators in the Arena Football League.
Coaching Career
After his playing career, Bernard Clark decided to become a coach. He started at James Madison University in 1998, where he coached defensive ends for two years. From 2000 to 2003, he coached special teams and linebackers at Liberty University.
In 2004, Clark became the defensive coordinator for Florida International University (FIU). A defensive coordinator is like the leader of the defense. In 2006, he coached the defensive line at the University of South Florida in his hometown of Tampa. He then returned to FIU in 2007 to coach the defensive line again. In 2009, he became the defensive coordinator at Hampton University.
In February 2010, Clark joined the coaching staff at the University of Pittsburgh. He became the linebackers coach there, working with Dave Wannstedt, who had coached Clark when he was a player at Miami. Clark has continued to coach at various universities, helping young players develop their skills. Since 2018, he has been the head coach at Robert Morris University.
