Bid Mud Lake (also called grand lac Mud in French) is a cool lake located in South Bruce Peninsula, Bruce County, Ontario, Canada. It's a part of the huge Great Lakes Basin. This lake is about 6 kilometers (or 3.7 miles) northwest of a town called Wiarton.

What is Bid Mud Lake?

Bid Mud Lake is a freshwater lake. It's not super big, but it's an important part of the local water system. The lake is about 1,200 meters (or 0.75 miles) long. It is also about 500 meters (or 0.3 miles) wide. The lake sits at an elevation of 209 meters (about 686 feet) above sea level.

Where is Bid Mud Lake located?

You can find Bid Mud Lake in the southwestern part of Ontario. It's specifically in Bruce County, which is known for its beautiful natural areas. The lake is quite close to the community of Wiarton. This area is popular for outdoor activities.

How does water flow in and out?

Lakes often have water flowing into them and out of them. Bid Mud Lake gets its water from an unnamed creek. This creek flows in from the east side of the lake. It brings water from a smaller lake called Little Mud Lake.

The water then leaves Bid Mud Lake from the northwest side. It flows out through another unnamed creek. This creek leads to Berford Lake. From Berford Lake, the water continues its journey. It becomes part of the Rankin River. The Rankin River then flows into the Sauble River. Finally, the Sauble River empties into Lake Huron. This shows how all these water bodies are connected!

What is the Great Lakes Basin?

Bid Mud Lake is part of the Great Lakes Basin. This is a huge area of land where all the water drains into the Great Lakes. The Great Lakes are a group of five very large freshwater lakes in North America. They are Lake Superior, Lake Michigan, Lake Huron, Lake Erie, and Lake Ontario. Being part of this basin means Bid Mud Lake's water eventually joins this massive system.
