Bishop Nehru's Music Journey
Starting Out: Early Music Years
Bishop Nehru started making music when he was just 13 years old. He created jazz songs and hip hop beats. Back then, he used the names "Kelz Scott" and later "Kile Kanvas." He shared his early songs on online forums like Odd Future and Hypebeast.
In 2012, when he was 16, Bishop Nehru gained attention. WorldStarHipHop called him their "Youth Rap Talent of the Week." This was for a short freestyle rap he did over a song called "Mathematics." He was also featured on Hot97.com as a rising star. His music was played on Power 105.1, another big radio station. He even got to open for the famous Wu-Tang Clan on their tour in Europe.
First Mixtapes and Big Collaborations
When Bishop Nehru was 16, he released his first mixtape, Nehruvia. This project had 13 songs and featured music made by famous producers like DJ Premier and Madlib. He then released another mixtape called strictlyFLOWz. This one was supported by well-known radio hosts Peter Rosenberg and DJ Semtex.
In August 2013, exciting news came out. Bishop Nehru and the legendary rapper MF DOOM announced they would work together. They planned to release a project through Lex Records.
Joining Mass Appeal Records and New Albums
On May 22, 2014, Bishop Nehru joined Nas' new record label, Mass Appeal Records. He was one of the first artists to sign with them. Soon after, on June 5, 2014, he teamed up with Dizzy Wright to release a free album called BrILLiant Youth EP.
On October 7, 2014, Bishop Nehru and MF DOOM released their joint album. It was called NehruvianDOOM. They released it under the group name "Nehruviandoom."
In May 2015, Bishop Nehru released his own solo album, Nehruvia: The Nehruvian. He said this album had a more natural sound. Nas also announced that he would help produce Bishop Nehru's next album. In 2015, Bishop Nehru's song "You Stressin" was even featured in the video game NBA Live 15.
Who Inspired Bishop Nehru?
Bishop Nehru looks up to many great artists. Some of his biggest inspirations include Michael Jackson, Nas, 2Pac, MF DOOM, Kanye West, and the Wu-Tang Clan. He also gets ideas from musicians like Herbie Hancock, 50 Cent, Eminem, Pharrell Williams, ASAP Rocky, Tyler, The Creator, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Incubus.
Bishop Nehru chose his stage name carefully. The "Bishop" part comes from a character in the movie Juice. This character inspired him to work hard and earn respect. The "Nehru" part comes from Jawaharlal Nehru. He was the first prime minister of India and worked closely with Mahatma Gandhi.
