How Bisk Farm Started
Krishnadas Paul was born in a village called Kamarkita. This village is in Burdwan, West Bengal. He studied law before joining his family's business. His father started this trading business in 1947. In 1974, Krishnadas Paul started Aparna Agency. He became a distributor for big companies like Nestle and Dabur.
Krishnadas Paul founded Bisk Farm in the year 2000. He was 60 years old at that time. Despite his age, he built a very successful business. Bisk Farm quickly became a well-known brand. Krishnadas Paul passed away in 2020. His son, Arpan Paul, now leads the company.
Early Challenges and Growth
In 2004, Bisk Farm was facing difficulties. Sales were low, and the company was losing money. Krishnadas Paul and his son-in-law, Vijay Kumar Singh, decided to try one last strategy. Instead of trying to sell products all over India, they focused on Eastern India. They changed their product recipes and packaging. New TV commercials were launched in 2005.
This new plan worked very well. It was a big success for Bisk Farm and the Aparna Group. Before Bisk Farm, the group was mainly a distributor. This brand marked their entry into manufacturing. Within four years, the company's sales reached ₹200 crore. They had 55 different products.
Bisk Farm became the second-largest biscuit brand in Eastern India. It was right behind Britannia. After this success, the company expanded into bakery products. They opened their "Bisk Farm — Just Baked" stores in 2008.
Expanding Across India
By 2009, Bisk Farm was present in many states. These included West Bengal, Jharkhand, and Bihar. They also sold products in Bhutan. The company entered Chhattisgarh as well. Even as a regional company, Bisk Farm competed with bigger brands. These included Britannia, Parle, and ITC.
Bisk Farm aims to become a complete food company. They are adding many new food products. These range from biscuits and cakes to rusks and snacks. They even launched India's first sugar-free cream cracker. Another popular product is Googly, a sweet and sour cracker.
By November 2009, there were eight "Just Baked" stores. The company planned to open many more. In 2010, Bisk Farm opened a new production facility in Siliguri. This helped increase their production capacity. They also planned a large factory in Bangalore, Karnataka. This factory opened in March 2022. Bisk Farm is also planning to expand into other states. These include Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh.
