Blackhead is a tall mountain located in Greene County, New York. It is part of the Blackhead mountain range within the larger Catskill Mountains. Blackhead is known as one of the Catskill High Peaks, ranking as the fifth highest. Nearby mountains include Black Dome to the northeast and Acra Point to the north.

Blackhead Mountain is a popular spot for hikers and nature lovers. It offers amazing views of the surrounding Catskill Mountains. The mountain is part of the beautiful Catskill Park in New York.

Where the Water Flows

The water from Blackhead Mountain eventually flows into the Hudson River. This river then makes its way to New York Bay.

  • Water from the southwest side of Blackhead flows into East Kill.
  • This water then joins Schoharie Creek and the Mohawk River before reaching the Hudson River.
  • On the north side, water goes into the headwaters of Batavia Kill, which also flows into Schoharie Creek.
  • The east side of the mountain sends its water into Trout Brook, then Shingle Kill, and Catskill Creek, which also leads to the Hudson River.

A famous hiking trail called the Long Path runs through this area. The Long Path is a very long trail, about 350-mile (560 km) (560 km) in length. It stretches all the way from New York City to Albany. On Blackhead Mountain, the Long Path connects with another trail called the Escarpment Trail. These trails offer exciting routes for hikers to explore the mountain and its beautiful forests.
