A Look at Bolton's Past
The name "Bolton" has an interesting meaning. It comes from an old word that means 'Collection of buildings'. This suggests that Bolton was once a group of houses or structures.
For a long time, Bolton was part of a larger area called Morland parish. It was like a smaller church district within Morland. However, in 1866, Bolton became its own separate civil parish. This meant it had its own local government and identity.
