Where the Water Goes

Imagine Bolton Mountain as a giant water tower! All the rain and melting snow that falls on its slopes eventually flows into different streams and rivers. This area is called a watershed.

Most of the water from Bolton Mountain ends up in Lake Champlain. From there, the water travels north into Canada. It flows through the Richelieu River, then into the mighty Saint Lawrence River, and finally reaches the Gulf of Saint Lawrence and the Atlantic Ocean.

Closer to the mountain, water from the northeast and southeast slopes flows into the Little River. Water from the south and west sides goes into the Winooski River. The northwest slopes send water to the Lamoille River. Both the Winooski and Lamoille Rivers also lead to Lake Champlain. So, Bolton Mountain is a key part of this big water journey!
